# Aluminium Morning Panels & Blue-Grey Menu Type

A design language for cool, image-heavy, and structurally precise interfaces.

---

## Philosophy

> "A simple page can feel world-class through disciplined typography, consistent section logic, strong image cropping, and restrained colour."

This system captures the crisp, refreshing aesthetic of early morning window light hitting aluminium counters. It rejects the overly soft, rounded, and floating layouts of modern SaaS in favor of an "old website-builder cadence"—where sections have clear joins, structures are rigid, and pages feel like highly deliberate digital documents.

### Core Beliefs

1. **Disciplined Typography** — Typographic hierarchy is constrained and deliberate. There is a strict ceiling on text size to maintain a grounded, editorial feel.
2. **Consistent Section Logic** — Full-width panels stack with clear horizontal joins. We do not use "luxury whitespace" to float elements; space is functional, predictable, and structured.
3. **Strong Image Cropping** — Photography drives the visual weight. Images are cropped tightly and decisively, spanning full containers without rounded borders.
4. **Restrained Colour** — Color acts as structural steel. The palette is icy, metallic, and sharp, allowing the photography to provide the warmth and texture.

### Strict Rules

* **W3.CSS Structure** — The interface must be built upon the structural grid and utility classes of the W3.css framework.
* **100% Page Width** — Containers and section backgrounds span edge-to-edge with clear horizontal divisions.
* **Document-Like Intros** — The space directly beneath the hero image must feature a structured, document-style introduction with bold lead text.
* **Squared Geometry** — Everything is a pure rectangle. No rounded SaaS modules, no pill-shaped buttons.
* **No Icon Clutter** — Rely on text and imagery. Decorative motifs and superfluous UI icons are strictly forbidden.
* **Sticky Light Navbar** — Navigation is a fixed, bright white structural bar at the top of the viewport.

## Color Palette

### The Aluminium & Ink Scale

The palette rejects beige warmth, generic startup blue, and all gradients. It relies on cold silver-greys, sharp blue-grey charcoal for reading, and a single restrained ink-blue for interaction.

```css
/* Structural Backgrounds */
.w3-theme-nav      { background-color: #ffffff; } /* Pure white sticky navigation */
.w3-theme-canvas   { background-color: #f7f9fa; } /* Default page canvas */
.w3-theme-panel    { background-color: #e2e6e9; } /* Pale silver-grey sections (Aluminium) */
.w3-theme-border   { border-color: #cdd3d8; }     /* Hard, clear joint lines */
/* Typography (Blue-Grey Charcoal) */
.w3-text-theme-dark    { color: #2a343c; } /* Primary headings, hero text */
.w3-text-theme-base    { color: #3b4752; } /* Body text, section content */
.w3-text-theme-muted   { color: #5c6c7a; } /* Meta text (must remain highly readable) */
/* Interactive & Call to Action */
.w3-theme-action   { background-color: #1a2a40; color: #ffffff; } /* Restrained ink-blue CTAs */
.w3-theme-action:hover { background-color: #0f1926; } /* Darker ink-blue on interaction */
/* Accents */
.w3-text-theme-accent  { color: #e5b53c; } /* Golden yellow (Reserved exclusively for stars/ratings) */
```

### Prohibited Colors
```css
/* DO NOT USE */
.bg-startup-blue   /* Bright, saturated #007bff or similar */
.bg-warm-beige     /* Any yellow-tinted warm greys or earthy tones */
.bg-generic-navy   /* Dull, standard navy lacking the 'ink' depth */
.bg-gradient       /* All gradients are strictly banned */
```

## Typography

The system utilizes **Quattrocentro Sans** universally. The sizing scale is highly restricted to prevent the oversized, empty feeling of corporate tech sites.

### Font Family & Sizing Rules

```css
/* Global Reset */
body, h1, h2, h3, h4, h5, h6, .w3-button {
  font-family: 'Quattrocentro Sans', sans-serif;
}
/* Base Body (Generous Leading) */
body {
  font-size: 17px;
  line-height: 1.8;
  color: #3b4752;
}
/* Headings Ceiling */
h1, .hero-text {
  font-size: 2.6rem !important; /* Maximum allowed size in the entire system */
  line-height: 1.2;
  color: #2a343c;
}
h2, .section-heading {
  font-size: 1.4rem !important; /* Standard section marker */
  line-height: 1.3;
}
```

### Font Weights & Hierarchy

```css
font-normal    /* Used for all standard body copy and headings */
font-bold      /* Reserved specifically for the document-like lead text beneath the hero */
```

### Hierarchy Examples

| Element | Size | Weight | Color | Spacing |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hero Typography | 2.6rem (Max) | normal | Blue-grey charcoal | Normal |
| Section Headings | 1.4rem | normal | Blue-grey charcoal | Normal |
| Intro Lead Text | 17px | bold | Blue-grey charcoal | Generous (1.8) |
| Standard Body | 17px | normal | Blue-grey charcoal | Generous (1.8) |
| Image Captions | 15px | normal | Blue-grey charcoal | Normal |

*Note: Thin, unreadable captions are a common mistake and are strictly prohibited. Caption text must retain strong legibility.*

## Spacing & Motion

### Old Website-Builder Cadence
Spacing relies on clear, definitive blocks rather than modern "luxury whitespace." Sections meet each other with crisp borders and standard padding. We do not use massive 150px gaps to create artificial breathing room.

```html
<!-- Proper Section Join (W3.css standard padding) -->
<div class="w3-row w3-theme-panel w3-padding-64">...</div>
<div class="w3-row w3-theme-canvas w3-padding-64">...</div>
```

### Motion System: Nearly Static
Interfaces should feel like physical, printed documents placed on glass.
* **No parallax scrolling.**
* **No fade-in on scroll animations.**
* **No bouncy spring transitions.**
* Hover states on buttons are instantaneous background color shifts.

---

## Imagery & Media

Photography is the heavy anchor of this design system. Because the UI is restrained and cool, images provide the focal points and visual texture.

### Subject Matter & Tone
* Wet glass, condensation, cold surfaces.
* Steel jugs, aluminium counters, metallic reflections.
* Black aprons, dark industrial fabrics.
* White ceramic cups, stark contrasting objects.

### Treatment
* **Strong Cropping:** Images must fill their rigid containers edge-to-edge.
* **No Overlays:** Do not put text over busy images. Images sit adjacent to text or act as clear hero banners.
* **No Rounded Corners:** All imagery must have `w3-square` 90-degree corners.

## UI Components (W3.CSS Implementations)

### Navigation (Sticky Light)

The navigation acts as a bright, static skylight over the page content.

```html
<div class="w3-top">
  <div class="w3-bar w3-white w3-card-none w3-border-bottom w3-theme-border w3-padding-16">
    <a href="#" class="w3-bar-item w3-button w3-square w3-text-theme-dark" style="font-size: 1.4rem;">BRAND</a>
    <div class="w3-right">
      <a href="#" class="w3-bar-item w3-button w3-square w3-text-theme-base">Menu</a>
      <a href="#" class="w3-bar-item w3-button w3-square w3-theme-action">Action</a>
    </div>
  </div>
</div>
```

### The Document-Like Intro (Post-Hero)

Must sit immediately below the hero image block, utilizing the bold lead text requirement.

```html
<div class="w3-container w3-padding-64 w3-theme-canvas">
  <div class="w3-content" style="max-width:800px">
    <p class="w3-text-theme-dark" style="font-weight: bold; font-size: 17px; line-height: 1.8;">
      This is the bold lead text. It acts as an executive summary or document abstract, setting the tone with absolute clarity before transitioning into standard body copy.
    </p>
    <p class="w3-text-theme-base">
      Following the lead, the standard text continues here. The cadence is predictable, the typography disciplined, and the margins clear.
    </p>
  </div>
</div>
```

### Call To Action (Restrained Ink-Blue)

Squared, solid, and completely devoid of shadows or rounded edges.

```html
<button class="w3-button w3-square w3-theme-action w3-padding-large">
  Submit Application
</button>
```

### Content Sections (Silver-Grey Panels)

Used to break up the flow without floating elements in empty space.

```html
<div class="w3-row w3-theme-panel w3-border-top w3-border-bottom w3-theme-border">
  <div class="w3-half w3-padding-64 w3-container">
    <h2 class="section-heading">Section Title</h2>
    <p class="w3-text-theme-base">Text content anchors to the grid.</p>
  </div>
  <div class="w3-half">
    <!-- Image cropped perfectly to the half-grid -->
    <img src="steel-jugs.jpg" class="w3-image" style="width:100%; object-fit: cover;" alt="Steel jugs on counter">
  </div>
</div>
```

### Ratings / Accents

The golden yellow is applied surgically, only for specific glyphs like stars.

```html
<div class="w3-text-theme-accent" style="letter-spacing: 2px;">
  ★★★★★
</div>
```

## Quality Checklist

* [ ] Is the maximum font size on the page strictly capped at `2.6rem`?
* [ ] Is the primary typeface *Quattrocento Sans* applied globally?
* [ ] Do all sections have flat, flush horizontal joins (`w3-row`, `w3-panel`) with no floating SaaS-like white space?
* [ ] Is the sticky navigation bar pure white without heavy drop shadows?
* [ ] Are all CTAs and images completely square (0px border radius)?
* [ ] Is the document-like lead text immediately following the hero bolded?
* [ ] Are captions readable (not dangerously thin or low contrast)?
* [ ] Has all icon clutter been removed in favor of structural layout and typography?
