# Milk-White Gallery Cards & Vermouth-Red Receipt Mark

A design language for practical, memorable, and highly tactile small-business landing pages.

## Philosophy

> "Charm emerges from proportion and rhythm, never from decoration."

This system creates interfaces that feel like a curated gallery wall or a perfectly stamped physical receipt—clean, grounded, and structurally resolute. The design relies entirely on classic 2014 blocky layouts, generous padding, and masterful photographic curation. It rejects modern hyper-gloss and faux-vintage café tropes in favor of honest, well-spaced typography and oversized imagery.

### Core Beliefs

1. **Hierarchy through rhythm and proportion** — Visual interest is generated by the interplay between strict serif headings, generous line height, and predictable padding.
2. **Photography leads the narrative** — Oversized, edge-to-edge image cards anchor the page. The imagery itself (counter reflections, cake stands, folded receipts) provides the texture, not the UI.
3. **The Accent is a signature** — A dry, vermouth-red serves as a utilitarian stamp, bringing quiet sophistication without screaming for attention like candy-colored buttons.
4. **Grounded structures** — "Old-builder" shadows and blocky layouts provide a sense of physical weight and permanence.
5. **Legibility is paramount** — Tiny captions and micro-text are strictly forbidden. Every piece of information is treated with dignity and proper scale.

### Strict Rules

* **No Faux Vintage** — Absolutely no distressed textures, frayed edges, or sepia-toned overlays.
* **No Decorative Tropes** — Ribbons, stickers, avatars, and decorative flourishes are banned.
* **Capped Headings** — The hero section features a centered serif heading capped at a medium scale. No massive billboard typography.
* **No Glossy Gradients** — Backgrounds and modules must remain completely flat.
* **Simple Footer & Single Proof Line** — Trust is built structurally. Use exactly one horizontal proof line (with golden review stars) and a strictly utilitarian footer.

## Color Palette

### Base, Canvas & Ink Scale

The palette is rooted in warm milk-whites and chalk-greys, contrasting sharply with deep charcoal ink. The accents are highly specific: a muted vermouth-red and a classic review-star gold.

```css
/* Backgrounds (Canvas & Modules) */
bg-[#Fdfbf7]          /* Milk-white main canvas background */
bg-stone-50           /* Secondary neutral zones */
bg-stone-100          /* Chalk-grey raised modules and primary cards */
bg-stone-200          /* Hover states for interactive modules */
bg-white              /* Used strictly for high-contrast image mats */
/* Borders & Dividers */
border-stone-200      /* Standard receipt-like dividers */
border-stone-300      /* Hovered borders on gallery cards */
border-dashed         /* Exclusively used for receipt-row visual metaphors */
/* The Signature Accent: Dry Vermouth-Red */
text-rose-800         /* Text highlights, subtle text links */
bg-rose-800           /* Primary flat call-to-action buttons */
border-rose-800       /* Focused states, active borders */
bg-rose-900           /* Hover state for primary actions (never candy-red) */
/* The Trust Mark: Golden Stars */
text-yellow-600       /* Exclusively used for SVG review stars */
/* Typography Ink */
text-stone-900        /* Primary charcoal headings, hero text */
text-stone-800        /* Standard body copy */
text-stone-600        /* Sub-navigation, receipt row meta-data */
/* Note: Lighter text colors are forbidden to prevent legibility issues */
```

---

## Typography

The system relies on a timeless pairing of elegant serifs for structural anchors and highly readable sans-serifs for the body. Generous leading (line-height) is mandatory.

### Font Stacks

```css
font-serif       /* Headings: Fanwood Text, Vollkorn, or Gentium Book Plus */
font-sans        /* Body: Lucida Grande, Open Sans, or PT Sans */
```

### Font Weights

```css
font-normal      /* Core body copy, long-form text, receipt rows */
font-medium      /* Buttons, navigation items, secondary card titles */
font-bold        /* Reserved strictly for the single proof line metrics or hero emphasis */
/* font-light is not used; structural weight provides the charm */
```

### Font Size Scale (Medium-Scale Capped)

```css
/* Note: Anything below text-sm (tiny captions) is strictly forbidden */
text-sm          /* Utility links, standard receipt row labels (14px) */
text-base        /* Standard paragraph body copy (16px) */
text-lg          /* Lead paragraphs, card descriptions, navigation (18px) */
text-xl          /* Standard module headers (20px) */
text-2xl         /* Oversized card titles (24px) */
text-3xl         /* Primary page headings */
text-4xl         /* Hero heading maximum cap — NEVER EXCEED THIS SCALE */
```

### Leading & Rhythm

```css
leading-relaxed  /* Mandatory for all paragraph text to maintain airy rhythm */
leading-loose    /* Used for blockquotes or specialized short descriptive text */
leading-snug     /* Headings and card titles */
```

### Hierarchy Examples

| Element | Font | Size | Weight | Color | Leading |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Centered Hero | Serif | 4xl | normal | stone-900 | snug |
| Card Title | Serif | 2xl | medium | stone-900 | snug |
| Body Text | Sans | base | normal | stone-800 | relaxed |
| Receipt Rows | Sans | base | normal | stone-800 | normal |
| Flat CTAs | Sans | base | medium | white | normal |

## Animation System

### Core Philosophy: The Gentle Reveal

Motion must feel grounded, unhurried, and natural. Snappy spring animations or wild transform scales feel too digital. The system relies on simple, gentle opacity reveals.

### Page & Image Load Transitions

```tsx
initial={{ opacity: 0 }}
animate={{ opacity: 1 }}
transition={{ duration: 0.6, ease: "easeInOut" }}
```

### Hover States (No Transforms)

Cards and buttons change background color instantly or with a very short linear fade. Elements never scale, lift, or float on hover.

```tsx
/* Strict color-fade only */
className="transition-colors duration-200 ease-linear"
```

## UI Components

### Oversized Image-Led Cards

Cards are the architectural blocks of the 2014 gallery layout. They feature massive imagery, chalk-grey module backgrounds, and consistent, repeatable heights.

```tsx
<div className="flex flex-col bg-stone-100 shadow p-6 gap-4 h-full">
  <div className="w-full aspect-[4/3] bg-stone-200 overflow-hidden">
    <img src="..." className="w-full h-full object-cover" alt="Counter reflection" />
  </div>
  <h3 className="font-serif text-2xl text-stone-900 mt-2">Section Title</h3>
  <p className="font-sans text-base text-stone-800 leading-relaxed">
    Card description here.
  </p>
</div>
```

### Receipt-Like Service Rows

Data and services are listed in clean, border-separated rows mimicking a printed receipt.

```tsx
<ul className="w-full border-t border-stone-200">
  <li className="flex justify-between py-4 border-b border-dashed border-stone-200 font-sans text-base text-stone-800">
    <span>Service Name</span>
    <span className="font-medium">$120</span>
  </li>
</ul>
```

### Single Proof Line

A strictly horizontal alignment of golden stars and a core metric, placed predictably beneath the hero.

```tsx
<div className="flex items-center justify-center gap-3 py-6 border-y border-stone-200">
  <div className="flex text-yellow-600">
    <StarIcon className="w-5 h-5 fill-current" />
    <StarIcon className="w-5 h-5 fill-current" />
    <StarIcon className="w-5 h-5 fill-current" />
    <StarIcon className="w-5 h-5 fill-current" />
    <StarIcon className="w-5 h-5 fill-current" />
  </div>
  <span className="font-sans font-bold text-stone-900 text-sm">
    Trusted by 500+ locals
  </span>
</div>
```

---

## Component Catalog

### Navigation & Headers

```tsx
// Light Navbar
"w-full bg-[#fdfbf7] border-b border-stone-200 py-4 px-8 flex justify-between items-center font-sans text-stone-800"
// Centered Serif Hero Capped at Medium Scale
"max-w-2xl mx-auto text-center font-serif text-4xl text-stone-900 leading-snug py-16"
```

### Buttons

Buttons are strictly flat, utilizing dry vermouth-red for primary actions and chalk-grey for secondary actions.

```tsx
// Primary Flat CTA (Never Candy-Red)
"bg-rose-800 text-white font-sans font-medium text-base px-8 py-3 hover:bg-rose-900 transition-colors"
// Secondary Flat CTA
"bg-stone-200 text-stone-900 font-sans font-medium text-base px-8 py-3 hover:bg-stone-300 transition-colors"
```

### Shadows

Shadows emulate "old-builder" aesthetics—static, grounded, and slightly harsh, rather than hyper-diffuse.

```tsx
// Standard Module Shadow
"shadow-md shadow-stone-300/50"
```

## Quality Checklist

* [ ] Is the hero heading using a serif font and capped at `text-4xl`?
* [ ] Are there exactly two flat CTAs, devoid of gradients or rounded pills?
* [ ] Are the cards strictly uniform in height with oversized images and chalk-grey backgrounds?
* [ ] Is the primary accent color a dry vermouth-red (`rose-800`), completely avoiding candy-apple reds?
* [ ] Are all paragraphs formatted with `leading-relaxed` or greater?
* [ ] Are tiny captions (smaller than 14px/`text-sm`) completely absent from the design?
* [ ] Does the imagery focus on real-world practicalities (counter reflections, folded receipts, cake stands, white plates)?
* [ ] Are the review stars colored exclusively in golden yellow?
