# Rainwashed Navy Ledger & Porcelain Section Sheets

A design language for restrained, hyper-readable interfaces built with the absolute discipline of a clean café ledger after rain.

## Philosophy

> "Structure creates trust; constraint creates elegance."

This system rejects the bloated, widget-heavy aesthetic of modern software in favor of a highly structured, ledger-like simplicity. It leans entirely on the W3.css framework's purest elements: visible section joins, ruled content rows, and high-contrast typography. The interface should feel damp, cool, and impeccably organized—like a high-end hospitality ledger resting on a stainless steel counter.

### Core Beliefs

1. **Readability is Paramount** — Charcoal-blue body text on porcelain-white backgrounds ensures prolonged reading without eye strain.
2. **Maintainability through Repetition** — Repeatable section logic and a strict 80% width container constraint eliminate layout guesswork and guarantee consistency.
3. **Strong Image Crops** — Imagery must be decisive and structural, acting as architectural pillars rather than decorative filler.
4. **Absolute Discipline** — CTAs are restricted entirely to deep navy. Color is never used for decoration.

### Strict Rules

* **Container Constraint** — All core content must sit within a strict 80% maximum width container.
* **Zero Ornamentation** — Strictly **no** badges, avatars, icons (except golden stars), opaque gradients, or rounded SaaS-style cards.
* **Sharp Edges Only** — All buttons, containers, and image crops must be perfectly squared. Zero border-radius is permitted.
* **Hero Restraint** — Hero text is strictly capped at `3xl`. Oversized typography breaks the ledger aesthetic.
* **Flat Canvas** — Only porcelain-white or cool mist-grey backgrounds are permitted.

## Color Palette

Built as an extension to W3.css, this palette evokes the cool, damp atmosphere of a rainwashed morning. It relies on deep, inky darks and crisp, cool lights.

### Core Variables & W3.css Extensions

```css
/* Canvas & Trays (Backgrounds) */
.w3-porcelain-white { background-color: #fdfdfd; } /* Primary sections */
.w3-mist-grey       { background-color: #eef0f2; } /* Secondary trays, alternating rows */
/* Navigation & Interaction */
.w3-blue-black      { background-color: #0b1320; } /* Sticky navbar exclusively */
.w3-deep-navy       { background-color: #112240; } /* CTAs, primary buttons */
.w3-deep-navy-hover { background-color: #0a1526; } /* Button hover state */
/* Structural Ruled Lines */
.w3-border-mist     { border-color: #d1d5db !important; } /* Section joins, ruled content rows */
/* Typography Darks */
.w3-text-ink-navy   { color: #0f172a !important; } /* Lora/Alegreya Headings */
.w3-text-charcoal   { color: #2a3441 !important; } /* Assistant/Source Sans Body */
/* The Sole Accent */
.w3-text-golden     { color: #eab308 !important; } /* Rating stars, critical highlights only */
```

## Typography

Typography acts as the primary visual architecture. We avoid oversized, imposing hero text in favor of an editorial, ledger-scale cadence.

### Font Stacks

```css
/* Headings: Ink-Navy Serifs */
.w3-heading-serif {
  font-family: 'Lora', 'Alegreya', serif;
  color: #0f172a;
}
/* Body: Charcoal-Blue Sans */
.w3-body-sans {
  font-family: 'Assistant', 'Source Sans 3', sans-serif;
  color: #2a3441;
}
/* FAQ Headings: Medium Weight Sans */
.w3-faq-heading {
  font-family: 'Work Sans', sans-serif;
  font-weight: 500;
  color: #0f172a;
}
```

### Font Size Scale (W3.css Constraints)

*Oversized serif type is strictly forbidden.*

```css
/* Hero text capped at 3xl (approx 24px - 30px depending on base) */
.w3-xxlarge   /* Hero titles, primary page ledger headings */
.w3-xlarge    /* Section titles, primary splits */
.w3-large     /* Sub-headers, prominent body text */
.w3-medium    /* Core paragraph text, ruled row data */
.w3-small     /* Footnotes, ledger metadata */
```

### Hierarchy Examples

| Element | W3 Class | Font Family | Color | Characteristics |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hero Heading | `w3-xxlarge` | Lora / Alegreya | Ink-Navy | Left-aligned, tight line-height |
| Section Title | `w3-xlarge` | Lora / Alegreya | Ink-Navy | Bottom-bordered (ruled join) |
| FAQ Heading | `w3-large` | Work Sans (Medium) | Ink-Navy | Flat, no accordion icons |
| Body Text | `w3-medium` | Assistant / Source | Charcoal-Blue | Highly readable, generous line-height |

## Spacing & Layout Structure

The layout follows a "practical 2021 builder cadence": highly modular, cleanly divided, and visibly structured. We do not hide the grid; we celebrate the structural lines.

### The 80% Constraint & Section Joins

```html
<!-- Main Container -->
<div class="w3-content" style="max-width: 80%;">
  <!-- Visible Section Join -->
  <div class="w3-container w3-porcelain-white w3-border-bottom w3-border-mist w3-padding-64">
    <h2 class="w3-heading-serif w3-xxlarge">Ledger Section</h2>
    <p class="w3-body-sans">Content sits cleanly within the grid.</p>
  </div>
</div>
```

### Ruled Content Rows

Data and lists must be separated by visible 1px hard lines, creating a literal ledger aesthetic.

```html
<ul class="w3-ul w3-border-top w3-border-bottom w3-border-mist">
  <li class="w3-padding-16 w3-border-mist w3-porcelain-white">Row Entry 01</li>
  <li class="w3-padding-16 w3-border-mist w3-mist-grey">Row Entry 02</li>
</ul>
```

---

## Animation & Motion

Motion is strictly utilitarian. Bouncing, sliding, or spring animations destroy the physical ledger metaphor.

### Allowed Transitions

```css
/* Soft Fades (W3 Native) */
.w3-animate-opacity {
  animation: opac 0.8s;
}
/* Link Darkening */
.w3-body-sans a {
  transition: color 0.2s ease, text-decoration-color 0.2s ease;
  text-decoration: underline;
  text-decoration-color: transparent;
}
.w3-body-sans a:hover {
  color: #0b1320;
  text-decoration-color: #0b1320;
}
```

---

## Imagery Strategy

Photography sets the mood of the interface. We avoid people-centric or decorative lifestyle shots in favor of environmental textures and objects.

* **Allowed Subjects:** Window condensation, heavy ceramic crockery, dark textured coats, brushed stainless steel counters.
* **Treatment:** Strong, unapologetic crops. Images should span full column widths with perfectly square corners (`w3-image` with no border-radius).
* **Vibe:** Damp, cold outside, warm and structural inside.

## UI Components

### The Sticky Navbar

A solid block of blue-black. No translucency, no glassmorphism, no drop shadows.

```html
<div class="w3-top">
  <div class="w3-bar w3-blue-black w3-padding-large">
    <a href="#" class="w3-bar-item w3-button w3-hover-none w3-text-white">Brand Ledger</a>
    <a href="#" class="w3-bar-item w3-button w3-hover-none w3-text-mist">Directory</a>
  </div>
</div>
```

### Squared CTAs

Used with absolute discipline. Deep navy only. Perfectly sharp corners.

```html
<button class="w3-button w3-deep-navy w3-text-white w3-hover-black" style="border-radius: 0;">
  Execute Action
</button>
```

### Rating Indicators (Golden Stars)

The *only* icon permitted in this design system. Used strictly for evaluation metrics.

```html
<span class="w3-text-golden w3-large">★★★★★</span>
```

---

## Quality Checklist

* [ ] Is the primary layout container restricted to exactly 80% width?
* [ ] Is the navbar sticky, solid blue-black, with zero transparency or drop shadows?
* [ ] Are all backgrounds strictly porcelain-white or cool mist-grey?
* [ ] Are all buttons and image crops perfectly squared (0px border-radius)?
* [ ] Is the hero heading capped at `3xl` (`w3-xxlarge`)?
* [ ] Have you removed all badges, avatars, and general icons?
* [ ] Are section joins and content rows separated by visible, hard mist-grey borders?

## Allowed vs Not Allowed

### ✓ Allowed
* Hard, 1px ruled lines to separate vertical content.
* Alternating row colors (Porcelain-white to Mist-grey).
* Assistant or Source Sans 3 for high-density reading.
* Unapologetic, sharp image crops featuring stainless steel, condensation, or ceramics.
* Golden yellow stars for explicit rating data.

### ✗ Not Allowed
* SaaS-style floating cards with drop shadows.
* Corporate navy (must use deep, inky blue-black or charcoal variants).
* Decorative café clichés (coffee beans, latte art, smiling baristas).
* Weak grey contrast that harms readability.
* Oversized serif typography (anything above 3xl).
* Badges, status pills, or user avatars.
* Gradients of any kind.
