# Snow-Archive Indigo & Gilt-Star Photographic Ledger

A design language for cool, photographic-driven, archival document interfaces.

---

## Philosophy

> "The archive is organized not by decoration, but by the quiet authority of type and silver light."

This system creates landing pages that feel assembled by a master graphic designer rather than generated by a digital framework. It relies on the raw strength of curated photography, careful classic typography, and reusable, document-like content blocks. It completely rejects decorative web motifs, opting instead for a cool, snow-white ledger aesthetic that feels tactile, historical, and deeply trustworthy.

### Core Beliefs

1. **Photography and Type Over UI** — Interface elements recede entirely. Strong photographs and meticulously set serif typography do all the communicative heavy lifting.
2. **The Softened Indigo Anchor** — A single, muted indigo accent guides the user to crucial actions (CTAs and selected links) without screaming for attention.
3. **The Gilt-Star Guarantee** — Golden review stars are the primary visual driver of trust, always presented proudly above the fold.
4. **Document-Style Rigor** — Layouts mimic physical ledgers and printed archives. Information is structured in two-column grids and strict tables, heavily favoring aligned left edges.
5. **Modest Depth over Empty Voids** — Unlike modern "luxury" web design which floats elements in massive white voids, this system uses generous typographic leading but *modest* vertical section depth, keeping the document connected and cohesive.

### Strict Rules

* **No Icons or Badges** — If something needs to be categorized, use a text label or a discrete column. Decorative icons cheapen the archival feel.
* **No Gradients** — Backgrounds are strictly solid snow-white or pale archive-grey.
* **No Beige Warmth** — Tones must remain icy, cool, and silver-leaning.
* **Mandatory Layout Structure** —
  * Light, unobtrusive navbar.
  * Full-width photographic hero with only a modest, semi-transparent overlay.
  * Reviews must be visible above the fold.
  * A perfectly centered trust paragraph immediately following the hero.
  * Information delivered strictly in two-column image/text sections or document-style menu tables.
  * A simple, unadorned address panel at the footer.

## Color Palette

### The Cool Archive Scale

The palette eliminates all warmth, focusing on pure snow-white canvases, silver-blue structural lines, and deep charcoal-slate typography to mimic archival ink.

```css
/* Canvas & Panels (Cool & Crisp) */
bg-white              /* Primary snow-white background (#ffffff) */
bg-slate-50           /* Pale archive-grey for secondary panels and menus (#f8fafc) */
bg-slate-100          /* Slightly deeper cool grey for structural footers/address panels */
/* Structural Dividers */
border-slate-200      /* Silver-blue dividers for tables and columns */
border-slate-300      /* Hover states for structural boundaries */
divide-slate-200      /* Essential for document-style menu tables */
/* The Accent: Softened Indigo */
text-indigo-500       /* Sparingly used for selected links and text CTAs */
bg-indigo-500         /* Primary call-to-action button fills */
hover:bg-indigo-600   /* Tactile button hover states */
bg-indigo-50          /* Ultra-subtle highlight for selected table rows */
/* The Trust Signal: Gilt-Star */
text-amber-400        /* Golden review stars - the only warm color allowed */
/* Archival Ink (Text Hierarchy) */
text-slate-950        /* Primary headings, ultra-dark cool grey, never true black */
text-slate-700        /* Main body copy, ledger descriptions */
text-slate-500        /* Muted metadata, footer text, table headers */
```

---

## Typography

Typography strictly utilizes serif classifications to mimic high-end editorial and historical ledgers. Sizing is rigorously locked in to maintain the document aesthetic.

### Font Families

```css
font-heading     /* Cormorant Garamond, Rosarivo, or Fanwood Text */
font-body        /* Source Serif 4 or Spectral */
```

### Strict Size & Spacing Scale

To avoid standard web-scale conventions, typography is restricted to highly specific sizing bands with generous line-heights.

```css
/* Headings (Strictly 36-44px) */
text-[44px] leading-tight    /* Primary Hero Header (H1) */
text-[36px] leading-snug     /* Section Headers (H2) */
/* Body Copy (Strictly 17-18px) */
text-[18px] leading-loose    /* Primary Body Text, Centered Trust Paragraph */
text-[17px] leading-relaxed  /* Secondary Body Text, Table Content, Address Panel */
```

### Hierarchy Examples

| Element | Font Family | Size | Weight | Color | Alignment |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Hero Headline | Heading (e.g. Rosarivo) | `text-[44px]` | `font-normal` | `text-slate-950` | Center or Left |
| Centered Trust | Body (e.g. Spectral) | `text-[18px]` | `font-normal` | `text-slate-700` | `text-center` |
| Section Title | Heading | `text-[36px]` | `font-medium` | `text-slate-950` | `text-left` |
| Table Items | Body | `text-[17px]` | `font-normal` | `text-slate-700` | `text-left` |

## Animation & Motion

### Core Philosophy: The Quiet Print

Motion should mimic the gentle settling of dust in a library or a photo developing in a darkroom. No aggressive sliding, and strictly zero parallax spectacles.

### Image & Text Reveals

```tsx
/* Simple Opacity Fades (Framer Motion example) */
initial={{ opacity: 0 }}
whileInView={{ opacity: 1 }}
transition={{ duration: 0.8, ease: "easeOut" }}
```

### Mild Image Lift (Hover)

Photographs subtly elevate without dropping heavy shadows, simulating a physical print being picked up from a table.

```tsx
className="transition-transform duration-500 ease-out hover:-translate-y-1"
```

---

## UI Components & Layout Constraints

### 1. The Full-Width Photographic Hero
Must span the entire width. The image overlay must be incredibly modest—just enough to make the 44px text readable. Reviews sit directly inside or below this block, strictly above the fold.

```tsx
<header className="relative w-full h-[80vh] flex flex-col justify-between">
  {/* Modest Overlay */}
  <div className="absolute inset-0 bg-slate-950/20 mix-blend-multiply" />
  {/* Light Navbar */}
  <nav className="relative z-10 w-full py-4 px-8 text-white flex justify-between">
     <span className="font-heading text-[18px]">Archive & Co.</span>
  </nav>
  {/* Above-the-fold Gilt Stars */}
  <div className="relative z-10 px-8 pb-12">
    <div className="flex gap-1 text-amber-400 mb-4">
      <StarFill /><StarFill /><StarFill /><StarFill /><StarFill />
    </div>
    <h1 className="font-heading text-[44px] text-white leading-tight">
      Preserving the Ledger.
    </h1>
  </div>
</header>
```

### 2. Centered Trust Paragraph
Immediately following the hero. The only element permitted to use center alignment.

```tsx
<section className="py-12 px-6 max-w-2xl mx-auto text-center">
  <p className="font-body text-[18px] leading-loose text-slate-700">
    Built upon decades of cataloged excellence, we ensure every artifact and entry
    is handled with the quiet precision required of historical permanence.
  </p>
</section>
```

### 3. Two-Column Image/Text Section
Strictly left-aligned text. Images must focus on specific motifs: trays, shelving, handwritten sheets, or rainlit windows. Modest vertical section depth (`py-12` instead of standard web `py-24`).

```tsx
<section className="py-12 grid grid-cols-1 md:grid-cols-2 gap-12 max-w-6xl mx-auto px-8">
  <div className="overflow-hidden">
    <img
      src="rainlit-window.jpg"
      alt="Rainlit archival room"
      className="w-full h-auto transition-transform duration-500 hover:-translate-y-1"
    />
  </div>
  <div className="flex flex-col justify-center text-left">
    <h2 className="font-heading text-[36px] text-slate-950 mb-6">Categorized Trays</h2>
    <p className="font-body text-[18px] leading-relaxed text-slate-700 mb-8">
      The sorting process requires a steady hand and a cold eye.
      Silver-blue dividers keep records isolated yet accessible.
    </p>
    <a href="#" className="font-body text-[17px] text-indigo-500 hover:text-indigo-600 transition-colors">
      View the collection →
    </a>
  </div>
</section>
```

### 4. Document-Style Menu Table
A heavily structured, tabular layout with silver-blue borders, functioning as a pricing menu, directory, or index.

```tsx
<section className="max-w-4xl mx-auto py-12 px-8">
  <div className="border-t-2 border-b-2 border-slate-200 divide-y divide-slate-200">
    <div className="py-4 flex justify-between items-center bg-slate-50 px-4 hover:bg-indigo-50 transition-colors">
      <span className="font-body text-[18px] text-slate-950">Archival Shelving Unit</span>
      <span className="font-body text-[17px] text-slate-500">Ref. 001</span>
    </div>
    <div className="py-4 flex justify-between items-center bg-white px-4 hover:bg-indigo-50 transition-colors">
      <span className="font-body text-[18px] text-slate-950">Silver-Blue Dividers</span>
      <span className="font-body text-[17px] text-slate-500">Ref. 002</span>
    </div>
  </div>
</section>
```

### 5. Simple Address Panel
Replaces standard bloated web footers. Unadorned, utilitarian, text-heavy.

```tsx
<footer className="bg-slate-100 py-12 px-8 mt-12 border-t border-slate-200">
  <div className="max-w-6xl mx-auto flex flex-col items-start text-left font-body text-[17px] leading-relaxed text-slate-500">
    <span className="font-medium text-slate-950 mb-2">The Photographic Ledger Headquarters</span>
    <span>144 Rainlit Avenue</span>
    <span>Archive District, Floor 3</span>
    <span className="mt-4 hover:text-indigo-500 cursor-pointer transition-colors">contact@ledger-archive.com</span>
  </div>
</footer>
```

---

## Component Catalog

### Action Buttons (The Softened Indigo)
Used extremely sparingly. No rounded pills; strict, modest border radii to match a paper aesthetic.

```tsx
"bg-indigo-500 text-white font-body text-[17px] px-6 py-3 rounded-sm hover:bg-indigo-600 transition-colors shadow-none"
```

### Text Links
```tsx
"font-body text-[17px] text-indigo-500 hover:text-indigo-600 transition-colors underline decoration-indigo-200 underline-offset-4"
```

---

## Imagery Direction

The aesthetic entirely fails if modern, vector, or heavily saturated stock photography is used. Photography must dictate the mood of the interface.

* **Allowed Motifs:** Aluminum or wooden archiving trays, industrial metal shelving, authentic handwritten sheets, rainlit windows casting soft indoor light.
* **Tones:** Desaturated, cool, high contrast, film-like grain.
* **Framing:** Intentional, centered, still-life photography.

---

## Quality Checklist

* [ ] Is the body copy restricted exclusively to `text-[17px]` or `text-[18px]`?
* [ ] Are section headers capped precisely between `text-[36px]` and `text-[44px]`?
* [ ] Have all icons and decorative badges been entirely removed from the layout?
* [ ] Are the golden review stars (`text-amber-400`) clearly visible *above the fold*?
* [ ] Did you maintain "modest section depth" (e.g., `py-12`) rather than falling into the trap of gaping "luxury" vertical whitespace (`py-32`)?
* [ ] Is the trust paragraph perfectly centered, while all other structural content remains strictly left-aligned?

---

## Allowed vs Not Allowed

### ✓ Allowed
* Pure snow-white backgrounds and pale archive-grey panels.
* Strict serif typography for both headings and body text.
* Silver-blue (`slate-200`) hairline dividers for structural tables.
* Subtle opacity fades and mild upward image lifts on hover.
*   Left-aligned text within two-column grids.

### ✗ Not Allowed
* Corporate blue (`#1d4ed8`) or bright, tech-focused primary colors.
* Beige warmth, sepia tones, or "coffee shop" aesthetics.
* AI-generated café motifs, artificial lighting, or 3D renders.
* Icons, checkmark badges, or vector illustrations.
* Parallax scrolling spectacles or heavy drop shadows.
* Excessive "luxury" spacing between sections (keep the document tight and connected).
